Noonhat on the front page of Reddit!
Oh my! Kristin Dizon’s Seattle PI article just hit the front page of Reddit! Whee!

Reddit is wild… the site has been averaging one new sign up every two minutes for the last hour.
This should increase the odds of getting a lunch match outside of Seattle. Happy lunching everyone!

Cool idea, and I like it. Why limit it to North America, though? Google maps is worldwide.

this is the coolest thing i’ve seen in a long time.
i work near hundreds of other people, but i don’t really have a way to meet them all.
the circle on the google map is really, really cool. simple, but cool.

How about posting some statistics about how many people have signed up in the past in various cities?
Though I guess it may discourage people if they think they’re in a low-popularity area…

This is good news for the site !
I’m thinking of submitting your site to slashdot. Do you think your site is ready to handle the traffic ? One thing you need to make sure is that there is no DB query for the home page and that you do as much caching as possible for the other pages …

i just did lunch in palo alto, ca - was cool.
there should be some sort of feedback mechanism so folks can basically build up their noonhat rep. it would have to be pseudo-anonymous, though, to prevent all sorts of weird situations. maybe, collect up to five ‘reviews’ of a person before presenting a final ’score’ - i dunno. maybe not necessary, but…

Pavel: Yeah, the main reason I’m not showing other circles or past stats is fear of people never signing up because they don’t see that other people already have.
Remi: The site is pretty well cached… however, I need to change how I’m sending email before I can get too much more traffic. ;)
Peter: Glad it worked out! I’ve thought a bit about feedback, but since the matches are random, I couldn’t see what it would really add to the process.

Brian: OK, just let us know when you think it’s ready for a slashdotting (not that I can guarantee that it’ll make it to slashdot …)
